The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Preservation Society was founded by rail enthusiasts and local residents' in 1962, with the aim of preserving the branch line between Keighley & Oxenhope for the benefit of visitors and locals alike.
Since the line re-opened in 1968 the KWVR has very much been part of the local community, although primarily a tourist railway for visitors to the area.
In recent years however, the KWVR has operated a scheme whereby those people who live local to the railway can get a discount on the price of their tickets - thereby really becoming a community railway.
The Local Residents' Railcard was last re-launched in 2007, but has now been revised for 2012, with a bright new marketing campaign to encourage local people to come and enjoy some of their local heritage, whilst hopefully taking some cars off the congested roads at the same time! This page gives full details on the Railcard, its availability, what discounts you can get, and how you get one!
Am I eligible for a Residents' Railcard?
If you live in the postcode areas BD20, BD21 or BD22, then yes - you can get a Railcard.
A Railcard is valid for one adult - the one whose name and photo appears on it. Each Adult can take with them up to 3 children aged 5 to 15 inclusive at around half the local resident adult fare.
How do I get a Railcard?
To get a Railcard you firstly need a passport sized photo. Then you simply go down to your nearest KWVR station, present your completed application form (available to download HERE), provide proof of postcode, and we will issue your railcard. Proof of postcode must be a something recent which shows your name and addrees. For example driving licence, recent utility bill etc.
How much does it cost?
A Railcard costs £5, and is valid for 2 years - that's only £2.50 per year for some great savings. You can often save over £5 in one journey!
I have had a Railcard before and already have a KWVR Photocard. Do I still need another photo?
Yes. We have changed the Railcard to make it quicker to issue and easier to use. The Railcard now incorporates a photo of the person to whom it is issued, so each time you apply for a new Railcard you will need to bring a new photo. You can continue to use your existing Railcard & Photocard combination as normal until it expires.
What savings do I make?
By presenting your Railcard at the ticket office, adults can travel at Half Price. OAP's and Children travel at around half of the discounted adult fare.
The fares you will pay are shown below (fares correct for 2012. Different fares may apply on Special Event days)
Local Resident Adult fares are shown. Concessions (Senior Citizens, Disabled etc) and Accompanied Children aged 5 - 15 travel at around HALF of the prices shown below.
To use the fare table simply find the station you wish to travel to or from, and follow down the column, until the other station you wish to travel to or from is listed on the right. For example, Keighley to Haworth Adult Single is £2.50, Oxenhope to Haworth Adult Return is £2.50, Child Return £1.25.

When do the trains operate?
The KWVR is open every weekend throughout the year, and every day during school holidays. Full details of the timetable operating can be found HERE.
The Railcard gives discounts on almost every day we run, however, they cannot be used on Santa Special Trains (they can be used on the diesel service which operates on the same day as Santa trains, but not on the Santa trains themselves), or on certain special trains such as dining trains. On almost all other Special Event days they can be used, however the level of discount may be altered on some special events. If in any doubt, please check the web page for the event, or give us a call.
