Diesel Gala Details Updated

Diesel Gala details have been updated on our Diesel Page. Timetables for the weekend are now available online, and there are updates to the visiting locomotives attending the event. Further details below.

The KWVR's annual Diesel Gala will be held from 25th to 27th May 2012. This exciting event sees all our steam engines put to bed for the weekend, and the trains being hauled by classic diesel locomotives from the 1950's and 1960's. Our own diesel locomotives will be in use, as well as a wide variety of locos visiting from elsewhere in the country.

This year's event has a number of "star" attractions. Class 37 - 37075 will make its public debut for the first time with its new owners since being moved to the KWVR. Our own 20031 and 25059 will be in use. Unique Prototype Shunter D0226 will be in use on Friday and Saturday with D2511, and on Sunday our Railbus M79964 will be in use too.

Visiting Locomotives will feature:

Class 31 - 31466. Normally based at the Dean Forest Railway this loco has not left there since it entered preservation.

Class 50 - 50026 "Indomitable". This loco has not operated a passenger train since 1990, and made its debut at the Swanage Railway on the 11th May. Heading north, the visit to the KWVR will be only its second weekend running passenger trains since it last worked for British Rail in 1990.

Class 33 - 33103 "Swordfish".

Sadly planned locomotives 26038 and 33012 have both become defective with faults that cannot be repaired in time for the gala event. We would like to extend our thanks to all the loco owners for the work they have put in to prepare for the event, and for there assistance when things have not gone quite according to plan.

The KWVR would also like to thank Direct Rail Services for their assistance in bringing the visiting locos to the event.

Trains will operate all day and into the evening on the Friday and Saturday of the event, and additional trains will run between Keighley and Ingrow. Our popular real ale bars will be available on most trains.

Further details can be found at our dedicated diesel page HERE, and Facebook users can follow news about this event HERE. Up to date news in the run up to the event will be provided on the Diesel Page and Facebook pages above.

'The Making of The Railway Children' book

rmervynrailwaychildrenTwo years on from its official launch at Oakworth station by Mr Richard Mervyn (son of 'Old Gentleman' actor William Mervyn) our acclaimed book on the making of The Railway Children film continues to be in great demand.

Originally published to coincide with the film's 40th anniversary celebrations, it describes the making of the film as seen through the eyes of the railway volunteers who were actually involved over forty years ago. It includes around 70 colour and B&W photographs, many of which have never been published before, showing the railway, actors and  crew during the making of the film. It also gives information on the filming, behind-the-scenes gossip and trivia, personal recollections of railway staff and much more.

"A wonderful and modestly priced publication, fully worthy of its place as a tribute to the making of quite possibly the best children's film ever made"  Reviewer comment on Amazon
