The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Preservation Society was founded by rail enthusiasts and local residents' in 1962, with the aim of preserving the branch line between Keighley & Oxenhope for the benefit of visitors and locals alike.
Since the line re-opened in 1968 the KWVR has very much been part of the local community, although primarily a tourist railway for visitors to the area.
In recent years however, the KWVR has operated a scheme whereby those people who live local to the railway can get a discount on the price of their tickets - thereby really becoming a community railway.
The Local Residents' Railcard is being re-launched in 2007, with a bright new marketing campaign to encourage local people to come and enjoy some of their local heritage, whilst hopefully taking some cars off the congested roads at the same time! This page gives full details on the Railcard, its availability, what discounts you can get, and how you get one!

Keighley Mayor Launches Railcard
The Keighley Town Mayor, Cllr Graham Mitchell, attended a ceremony at Keighley station on Saturday 17th March where the first of the new Local Residents Railcards was presented to him by KWVRPS Chairman, Paul Brown.
After the presentation, Cllr Mitchell commented, "The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is known nationally and internationally as a market leader amongst Heritage Railways. The Town of Keighley is immensely proud of its railway which makes a very significant contribution to our Tourism Economy. However it was built in the 1860s by the then community leaders as a transport link for the local needs of the Worth Valley and Keighley. It served the local community faithfully for 94 years and when it was closed by British Railways, the initiative to reopen it came initially not from Railway Enthusiasts, but from the local Keighley Community. It is therefore entirely appropriate that 140 years after the original opening, the K&WVR is once again promoting its travel facilities to the local community. As Keighley's First Citizen, I am delighted to receive the first of the new Residents' Railcards and I urge all local people, from whatever background and wherever you live in Keighley Parish, to avail yourselves of this offer. Please don't think of this as just something for Railway Anoraks, it's a super discount travel offer for you, for all of you who live in Keighley. I look forward to the day when the K&WVR will feel able to make an even greater contribution to the Town, by realising its full potential as the existing Town Centre Bypass from Ingrow to Keighley Station, to be used regularly by the very many new residents who are setting up home in our town. This Railway has huge potential to assist in alleviating Keighley's existing and growing traffic congestion."
