Class 101 restoration work
Vehicle 51803 has now been finished internally and externally, save for a few very minor bits of touching up in the cab. A new set of batteries require fitting, then the vehicle is ready for service. It is hoped that the vehicle will makes its passenger debut since refurbishment over the Diesel Gala Weekend in June. (Photos below :Shaun Whitehead and Mike Tarran). Back at Ingrow, 51803 is now being painted in preparation for return to traffic. This set of pictures show work progressing on 30th March and 3rd April. (Photos : Tim Moody & Mike Tarran)

These images show Class 101 vehicle 51803 outside Ingrow VCT workshops whilst being shunted in preparation for being returned to Haworth on the 23rd February. At this stage it was not intended to be able to get the vehicle undercover for a few more months, so the paintwork was given a coat of base colour to protect it from the elements.. These images show Class 101 vehicle 51803 at Haworth on Saturday 30th August 2008. The vehicle has been moved back to Haworth following attention from the Carriage & Wagon department.

The vehicle has received bodywork repairs, and has received a coat of paint to protect the body until final painting is completed. It is hoped that this vehicle will be moved to the VCT Workshops at Ingrow for painting shortly.

The seats have all been re-upholstered by our own volunteers. They are far more comfortable than the tired and worn out Regional Railways seats in the vehicle when it came to us.
The seat frames have been repainted and repaired, with this work having mainly been carried out by our younger volunteers.
A new roof has been installed throughout the vehicle. The doors have also had some new panels, received repairs to water ingress and lost their orange formica!
The cab, albeit looking a bit untidy, is just getting a repaint and general tidy up where some modern features and pipework - added in a fairly untidy manner by British Rail and First North Western - have been removed or relocated.
